here's a confession. and it's a pretty pathetic and sad confession. since i've known shawn i have missed every single birthday of his. this was the fourth birthday running. so sad! the first year i went up to barrow, alaska for a bird job. the second year i was backpacking in china. the third year he was deployed to iraq and i was in arizona for a bird job. and this year i left on his birthday (june 16th) to come to alaska for a family reunion. it's terrible! so this year i made his birthday last three days long. on sunday i made his breakfast in bed, which he ended up eating at the table - i need to invest in some food trays. and then i made a birthday cake that was incredibly, deliciously good! it was angel food cake with whip cream frosting and strawberrys with strawberry freezer jam on it. it really melted in your mouth. i was excited that it turned out so well! so we had some friends over to celebrate. and then on monday i took him to lunch, since he works the night shift. and on tuesday morning i flew away. next year i'll make it even more fabulous to make up for my continued absense every year. so just an advance notice, 16 june 2010 i am busy. please don't ask me to do anything because i figure it's about time that i put in an appearance on the right day. :)
